Real Estate Investing

Understanding of the fundamentals of commercial real estate investment
- One of the Most Fun Classes at the GSB: Going in, I had zero real estate experience and didn't quite know what to expect. But it quickly became a highlight.
- Focused on Commercial Real Estate: We honed in on everything from industrial warehouses to office towers - dissecting what actually drives value in each segment.
- Core concepts: Land economics, market/locality analysis, investment analysis, investment vehicles, real estate risk, and pitching to a RE IC. Major land uses discussed - apartment complexs, retail, office, and industrial.
- A Balance of Art and Science: While property deals often hinge on relationships, gut feel, and market forces, there are also clear frameworks and metrics that help you evaluate an opportunity more objectively. I left feeling a lot more prepared to spot good dealsโand negotiate an office lease, should the need arise.
- Incredible Guest Speakers: We heard from the real estate arms of KKR and Blackstone, major developers in Russia, leaders at Tishman Speyer, Prologis' current CEO, plus some intriguing real-estate-tech founders. Each visitor brought a unique angle on how deals get done in this massive industry.
- While I am in process of digitzing my class notes, here are some of my writings:
